Penta Infra buys the brand new Nexus data center. It features a modern design with sustainability in mind and will house a new Flemish supercomputer.

Data center provider Penta Infra is entering Belgium with the acquisition of the Nexus data center site near Brussels. Nexus was built by Ghelamco in the Green Energy Park in Zellik in collaboration with Vrije Universiteit Brussel and the University Hospital of Brussels. The site has a capacity of 7.2 MW and is powered by 100 percent green electricity. Nexus will also house the next Flemish supercomputer.

Green data center

Penta Infra buys Nexus from Ghelamco and adds it to its portfolio as Penta Infra BRU01. “Brussels is located in the heart of Europe and the data-intensive FLAP hubs,” said Bob Springers, CEO of Penta Infra. “This beautifully designed data center is the perfect flexible platform for digital growth. The exceptional sustainability features make the data center an excellent addition to our 100 percent green energy-powered portfolio.”

Nexus has some interesting green features, such as a fully photovoltaic façade with a capacity of up to 0.5 MW, rainwater recovery for cooling and heat reuse. The site is considered carbon neutral and has received various certificates for this.

New player in Belgium

Penta Infra was not yet present in Belgium, but was already present in Germany, France, Denmark and the Netherlands, where the company’s headquarters are located. The company focuses on sustainable and neutral data centers in strategic regions.

With the arrival of Penta Infra in Belgium, the company joins several other colocation specialists with data centers around Brussels and elsewhere in the country. Digital Realty and LCL Datacenters, for example, also place strong emphasis on local roots.
