Oppo is bringing the Reno 12 and the Reno 12 Pro to Europe. Both devices are said to feature a wide range of AI features.
Oppo is expanding the Reno series with two new devices, the Reno 12 and the Reno 12 Pro. The timing of the market launch is surprising, as the Reno 11F is still fresh on the shelves. We still have to wait a little longer for a new Find flagship.
Due to a patent dispute with Nokia, smartphone releases on the European market were on hold for a while, but now that this has been resolved, Oppo doesn’t want to waste any time. The fact that the Reno 12 follows closely on the heels of the Reno 11F is more likely due to the Reno 11F being released later than expected.
Both the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro feature a 6.7-inch 120 Hz OLED display that displays up to 1.07 billion colors and offers blue light protection. The Reno 12 Pro is armored with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, but the Reno 12 should also be able to survive the occasional drop.
The differences between the Reno 12 and the Reno 12 Pro are not very big. The processor is a MediaTek 7300 Energy, which should deliver more efficient performance. The octa-core chip consists of four performance cores and four efficiency cores. A RAM engine can keep active apps running in the background for up to 72 hours with the lowest possible power consumption.
We also see a 5000mAh battery in both the Reno 12 and the Pro version. Charging is done at 80W with the manufacturer’s SuperVOOC charger and 55W if you use a standard USB charger. Only in the cameras does the Reno 12 Pro seem to distinguish itself, with a 50MP telephoto lens and a 50MP lens on the front.
The hardware specifications seem to be of secondary importance for the Reno 12 models. Oppo prefers to emphasize the numerous AI functions programmed into the devices. Just like laptops, new smartphones must also be equipped with AI. The Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro have a real “AI toolbox” that helps you read, write and edit photos. The translation functions are not yet available in Dutch: We are working hard on it, confirms Oppo.
AI can also do its work in the background. AI LinkBoostconsisting of nine individual antennas arranged in a 360° surround architecture, improves signal reception and optimizes network selection using an AI model running locally on your smartphone. This should result in more stable and faster connections with lower latency.
Oppo is launching the Reno 12 with 256 GB storage and the Reno 12 Pro with 512 GB storage in the Benelux countries. Both devices will be available from July 3 for 549 euros (Reno 12) and 649 euros (Reno 12 Pro).
With these two new devices, Oppo has a comprehensive mid-range portfolio. The question is whether the Reno 11F and Reno 12 models will not get in each other’s way too much. The Reno 11F is a hundred euros cheaper and has many of the same specifications. The cameras and processor are a little better, but is that worth a hundred to two hundred euros more?
