Digital Foundry has released a technical analysis of the trailer that reveals some important keys to the long-awaited game, and the truth is that its rating does nothing but confirm performance issues what this graphics engine has and how important rescaling is to achieve a good level of smoothness.

Starting with the resolution, it is estimated that Perfect Dark worked between 720p and 960p, and thanks to rescaling it reaches a final resolution of 1440p. This low resolution makes sense because otherwise it would not be possible to move the game 60 FPS. This frame rate is not stable and there are obvious drops throughout the video.

Not the first game based on Unreal Engine 5 to run at such a low resolution to achieve a good level of smoothness, Lords of the Fallen used a dynamic resolution that fit fluctuated between 1152p and 648p in performance mode. This mode is the one that allowed for an average of 60 FPS, but even those weren’t stable.

For lighting uses Lumen, which means that Perfect Dark boasts real-time global lighting, even if it’s not hardware accelerated, that is, a software implementation of Lumen was used. This suggests that the version they showed was the Xbox series

Still perfect darkness is in the development phase, so there is a possibility that things will improve and that the final version will eventually offer graphics quality and performance much higher than what we saw in this video.
