It seems like yesterday, but no. Four years ago, Apple and Google removed ‘Fortnite’ from the App Store and Google Play Store. Epic Games, who prepared everything (even running an ad shortly after the removal), planted the seed that led to today’s unprecedented launch on iOS in general and the App Store in particular.

Four years have passed since then, and now the Battle Royale par excellence, Fortnite, is out to warm up the group for its upcoming return to iOS. This return will not take place on the App Store, but on Epic’s own storefront, the Epic Games Store.

Fortnite is backAs confirmed by the official Epic Games account, Tim Sweeney’s company has sent both the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to Apple for notarization. Remember, even when apps are published on third-party stores, Apple has a review process in place to ensure minimum amounts are met.

History. It is currently unknown, but Epic expects both the store and mobile version of ‘Fortnite’ to be released within the next two months. It goes without saying that this only applies to the European Union, as third-party stores are only available in the Old Continent due to local regulations. No news from other countries. On Android, you can download the official APK from the ‘Fortnite’ website.

Epic will oppose the App Store. It’s clear that the company will continue to beat Apple. Epic Games Store aims to be a large repository of games, including external projects, and to do this it needs to attract developers. This is exactly why Epic will only charge a 12% commission (compared to the 30% charged by Apple and Google). Of course, winds of change are blowing on iOS as well.

What happened to Fortnite? When we look back, we will remember that on August 13, 2020, Epic Games updated ‘Fortnite’ and launched the direct payment system. Simply put, users can purchase V-Bucks, the in-game currency, using a third-party system, thus avoiding the Apple and Google gateway and therefore commission. It took hours for Google and Apple to remove the game from their stores, resulting in a trial that lasted several years and forced Apple to open up its ecosystem.
