Italy’s civil protection department has raised the alert level to maximum due to a new volcanic eruption Stromboliwhich is located on the island of the same name in the south of Italy.

“The approval of the alert level is based on phenomenological reports and hazard assessments provided by competence centres,” the agency said in a statement on its website.
