SpaceX officially registered the Starlink Ukraine office in late April and began the licensing process. We reported this in a separate material.
The company has just been entered on the No. 1 Electronic Communication Networks and Services Providers Registry. SpaceX representative office will soon start active work in Ukraine!
– wrote Mikhail Fedorov on the telegram channel.
The license obtained will allow the company not only to simplify the process of communication with officials and users, but also to remain in Ukraine even after the victory over Russia. Starlink will be able to work not only as an emergency in the absence of the Internet, but also as a full-fledged commercial Internet operator.
According to Apptopia, today Starlink has about 150,000 active daily users in Ukraine. Terminals work for social infrastructure facilities – schools, hospitals, village councils, fire brigades. After the liberation of the towns of Kyiv and Chernihiv, operators began to reconnect with Starlink.
There are villages where 10 kilometers of cable has been cut by bombardment. Thanks to a Starlink station, the provider was able to quickly restore Internet access. This is a unique experience using Starlink and has never been seen before in the world.
– Mikhail Fedorov wrote earlier.
The technology is also used by the military. However, they run into some problems. In anti-invasion regions where satellite Internet is most in demand, signals from satellites are weakest because orbital satellites are further away from ground stations.
The closest Starlink ground station to Ukraine is located in Poland. Another one in Lithuania and Turkey. Therefore, the Ministry of Finance has already announced plans to build its own ground station in Ukraine. It is unclear whether these plans have been agreed with SpaceX and Elon Musk, but the license obtained will likely simplify their implementation.
