Last week, Samsung held its second Unpacked event of the year, where it took the opportunity to refresh its long-standing lineup of foldable smartphones. The protagonists of this event were the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 (courtesy of the anticipated Galaxy Ring) and Samsung announces a special edition of the Z Flip6 something I’m totally in love with.

At the time, I analyzed the first Galaxy Z Flip with some skepticism. A year later, I was responsible for analyzing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, and although it convinced me a little more, I still haven’t considered a foldable phone as a personal mobile phone. Until I saw the special edition of Doraemon.

Special editions of mobile phones are quite common in Asia. We have seen smartphones themed around Dragon Ball, Naruto and even Sailor Moon. I admit that they make me laugh and some of them have very elaborate designs, but there is no doubt I’ve never fallen in love with anything like the special edition Doraemon Of the Galaxy Z Flip6.

This was one of the movies Doraemon watched when he was little. Nostalgia works in your favorBut Samsung has also worked hard. The phone is exactly the same as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 in terms of technical specifications and its design does not give away that it is a special edition, the only difference is that it is light blue (in case you don’t want to go (I guess that’s not my case).

The theme is in the details. Inside the box we find a transparent box decorated with Doraemon motifs, a magnetic base and the famous blue cat figurine. The software is also customized and includes boot animation, wallpapers, icons, and also a dynamic lock screen.

I tried both the Flip and the Fold, and I think the former makes much more sense as a foldable phone, at least for the use I’ll be putting it in. Being able to fold the phone in half and fit it almost anywhere is something I liked much more than I thought it would. Add to that the fact that the outer screen has grown to take up almost the entire surface (one of the things I didn’t like), Galaxy Z Flip6 scores a lot of points and it made me see folding books with different eyes.

The bad part is that Like most of these special editions it is not sold in Spain. Samsung will launch this model only in Hong Kong, where it is available for pre-order for 1,255 euros in the version with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of capacity. If it were available here, I would consider it, but it is already in great trouble with its journey to Hong Kong, so my joy is in vain.
