For context, let’s remember that the problem was detected in the Falcon Sensor function developed by CrowdStrike, a company working in the field of cybersecurity. This important software is designed to protect systems from cyberattacks. At some point on Thursday, the system began to conflict with Windows, which led to the “blue screen of death.”
What the company says
CrowdStrike president George Kurtz made a statement saying, “This is not a security incident or a cyberattack.” Moreover, the problem has been detected and fixed.
“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers affected by a flaw found in a content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts were not affected. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated, and a fix has been implemented. We direct customers to the support portal for the latest updates and will continue to provide full and ongoing updates on our site. We also encourage organizations to contact CrowdStrike representatives to ensure security and stability,” Kurtz wrote on his page.
CrowdStrike shares have recouped some of their losses, but the overall trend remains bleak. Shares are down 21% in pre-trade trading and are currently down 16%. Microsoft is trading 2% lower.
