Intel denies that there are structural problems with its mobile Raptor Lake CPUs, even though users complain of instability that is very reminiscent of a previously discovered bug in desktop gaming chips.

Users of laptops with powerful Raptor Lake or Raptor Lake Refresh chips (the thirteenth and fourteenth generations) are complaining of instability. The CPUs would crash in the same way as desktop Core i9 chips, which are also based on Raptor Lake.

The problems with the Core i9 CPUs for gamers have been around for some time, but the exact cause remains unclear. Sometimes the processors crash games for unknown reasons. The improved thermal speed increase Although this plays a role, according to Intel itself it is not the cause.

Laptops with HX CPUs based on the same architecture would now show the same behavior. According to him, there are many laptops in circulation that are affected by the mysterious problem.

Unknown (but different) cause

Although Intel does not know the exact cause of the problems with the desktop chips, the manufacturer denies that laptop chips exhibit the same behavior. A spokesperson told Tom’s Hardware:

“Intel is aware of a small number of reports of instability on 13th/14th Gen Intel Core mobile processors. Based on our in-depth analysis of reported instability issues on 13th/14th Gen Intel Core desktop processors, Intel has determined that mobile products are not subject to the same issue. The symptoms reported on 13th/14th Gen mobile systems are common symptoms that can be attributed to a variety of potential software and hardware issues.”

This statement contradicts what users have found. What is also interesting is that Intel can say with certainty that the mobile issues do not have the same cause as the desktop Core i9 issues, but at the same time does not know what the cause of the Core i9 issues is. Aside from the fact that this is not the case, it is related to the very similar defects of the very similar mobile chips.

That doesn’t make Intel a liar, but additional information to back up the claim in this case would certainly build more confidence among customers who are having problems.
