AMD will not launch its Ryzen 9000 processors until the second week of August. The launch was originally scheduled for later this month. The delay comes after AMD noticed some issues with the first batch of the chips among partners.
It is not clear what the issues are. AMD said that the initial production components shared with distribution partners did not fully meet quality requirements. Those products are now being replaced with new processors that do not appear to have any issues. Replacements are being prioritized, pushing back the Ryzen 9000 launch somewhat.
How AMD can solve the problem so quickly is questionable. Nothing seems to have changed in the production process. The problem can particularly affect the quality and control process Classificationin which individually manufactured processors are assessed for their quality. For example, not all finished chips sold under a certain type number may consistently achieve the promised clock speed. This means that the chips are not defective, but such a quality problem must be corrected before sale.
The delay is not very big. AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X are now scheduled for August 8th, Ryzen 9 9950X and Ryzen 9 9900X for August 15th.
AMD introduced Ryzen 9000 at Computex. The initial lineup consists of the four chips mentioned above. The processors are based on the new Zen 5 architecture and are said to be significantly more efficient, but also faster than their predecessors.
