Google Maps is no stranger to augmented reality. We can already use it to search and for walking routes, and now one more function has been added: augmented reality experiences.

With help from Ubisoft and support from Google Arts & Culture, augmented reality experiences allow you to: Revisit the history of iconic monuments like the Eiffel Towerhe is the first to receive these experiences.

Google Maps already has an immersive look in more and more places, and little by little we will find other types of exclusive content camouflaged among the photos of a place: augmented reality experiences.

You can try these out by searching for Eiffel Tower Gardens on Google Maps (not the Eiffel Tower itself, which has an immersive view but no AR experience.) You’ll be able to enjoy the experience whether you’re there or not. AR experience with Google Lens iconbut obviously you have to be there for this to be augmented reality and not a 3D representation.

In the case of the Eiffel Tower, you will find information about the Universal Exhibition held in Paris in 1900 and the different proposals of the architects of the time to change the Eiffel Tower. The biggest advantage is that, in addition to reading about it, You can see them in 3D and walk around the area to discover them from different angles. But what if you’re not in Paris right now? In that case, you can also access information and 3D graphics to travel back in time. Shown as a tour in Street ViewSo you can tap the arrows to explore the area, albeit in a less “augmented” way.

As we mentioned, these AR experiences will start at the Eiffel Tower and expand all the way to the Eiffel Tower “later in the summer.” Notre-Dame Cathedral and its surroundings in 1789a 3D recreation of the Bastille Saint-Antoine before the French Revolution, or the Tuileries Palace before its destruction.
