It’s been a little over a month since, as already announced last year, Google Podcasts has been shut down in most of the world, including Spain. And I almost say it was almost worldwide, because before that, on April 2nd, it already stopped working in the United States. And it’s true that Google arrived at that meeting, the one in April, with its homework half done, because the subscription export tools weren’t yet available, at least globally.
However, this was not our case, because the deadline was scheduled for June 24and as of April 23, export functions were already available. In addition, the technology company decided to give users of the service an additional period, so the deadline for carrying out this process was set for Monday, July 29, 2024, that is, the day before yesterday. Of course, the big question was whether, even if these tools were no longer functional by this date, it would still be possible to retrieve the subscription list later via Google Takeout.
Procrastination is one of the endemic evils of our timeso we can imagine that due to forgetfulness, oversight and the like there were many Google Podcasts users, probably more casual users of the service, who could not use the export feature… or not?
Well, indeed, as we can see on the web now defunct services, Google Podcasts has extended the deadline for exporting your subscriptionsfor which a new date was set 30th of August. Of course, it seems likely that there will be further extensions after that, so it’s best if you didn’t take advantage of the opportunity in the first instance to do so now before it’s too late.
As we told you back then, Google Podcasts offers two export modes. The first and most convenient is transfer YouTube Music subscriptions. In that case, you should know that the usual limitations of this service for free accounts do not apply to transferred podcasts, that is, you can continue to listen to them with the application in the background, and also download them to listen to them without an Internet connection.
Other option is a file download in OPML format (an XML type intended for schemas) that is compatible with major podcast services and applications, and which you can therefore use to add those you’ve watched on Google to the tool you’re now using to listen to that type of content.
