Many of our readers surely already know how to enter the BIOS. It’s actually a very simple process because we just have to Press “Delete” (“Del” in English) on our keyboard during the computer startup phase.
Things change with laptops because every manufacturer There is usually another key associated with it to enter BIOS but what happens if it fails and we can’t login? Things get complicated, you may not understand what is happening and you may not know how to react.
Fortunately, in most cases this problem is very easy to solve, It’s not usually serious and is not associated with errors or major malfunctions. Keep reading, I’ll explain what can happen and how you can fix this problem.
The most common problem is usually the system does not recognize the keyboard during the startup phase. This can be due to several reasons:
If the problem is caused by either of the first two points we have it very easy To do this, just switch to a USB 2.0 port and use a wired keyboard if you have one handy.
In the event that we do not have a wired keyboard at hand, or if the third point is the culprit, do not worry, there is an alternative way for safe and fast BIOS entry.
Let the computer start normally. Once we get to the desktop, we click on the Windows icon, we go to the startup and shutdown options, Hold down the left arrow and restart the computer.
This means that when the computer restarts, it will take us directly to the advanced recovery options. Once we enter there «Troubleshooting > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Configuration» and that’s it, our computer restarts and leaves us in the BIOS instead of the normal start.
Here we can view the keyboard settings in the “Advanced” and “USB Configuration” sections. Make sure you enable this option legacy USB support. If not, activate it and save changes. The next time you want to enter the BIOS using the keyboard, it should work without any problems.
If the keyboard still doesn’t recognize you after changing this configuration, try this update the firmware of this use only the files you downloaded from the manufacturer’s website, or resort to the automated update process that is commonly available through the specialized software that many models come with.
In case this doesn’t work either updating the BIOS may help you fix the problem. I’m leaving this as a last resort because with the problems that some versions with certain types of RAM can still cause, I’m a firm believer that we should keep the BIOS as little as possible these days.
