Finally, as we expected, Google has officially introduced the new Google TV Streameralthough it did not do exactly when we expected, because given the data it was reasonable to think that this new device will be one of the protagonists of the Made by Google event that will take place in a week, in which, as you already know, we will see the presentation generations Pixel 9 and Pixel Watch 3 Of course, on the other hand, it makes sense that Google preferred not to saturate next week’s event with too many announcements.

I say we expected it because, as you may recall, This new device was already leaked a few weeks agoin the vast and constant flow of information that is beyond the control of technology and will eventually see the light sooner than expected. Therefore, we already knew that Chromecast would have a companion or replacement. And as most of the rumors in this regard indicated, the second possibility was finally confirmed.

This new Google TV Streamer replaces Chromecast 4K Google TV, introduced in September 2020, although Google will also discontinue the HD model that arrived on our market two years later. So if you’re interested in any of the models, it’s best not to delay your purchase too long, otherwise you risk being left without one. And while it is true that the novelty offers important improvements, it is also true that its price also points to this growth.

And what are the improvements? The truth is, at this point, we have to admit that Google hasn’t skimped. In addition to the features we already found in Chromecast, Google TV Streamer is also a control center for Matter and Google Home, so it gives us a centralized access point to the smart home infrastructure. Obviously, these actions will still be possible to perform from a smartphone, but the ability to manage them with Google TV Streamer on the big screen seems, at least in theory, quite practical.

Google, you already know is immersed in bringing artificial intelligence to the last corner of its entire ecosystem services and devices, so this new Google TV streamer has clearly not been leaked. In this case, of course, it does so through the content indexed by Google TV on the various platforms that we integrate into it. Based on our preferences and AI, it will offer us personalized recommendations and, on request, complete summaries, reviews and breakdowns of content.

In the most technical part, we find an improvement in the processor compared to the processor integrated in the Chromecast 4K (although Google did not provide more information about it), double the RAM and 32 gigabytes of storage. With these new components, the search engine claims that users will enjoy smoother loading and browsing and that it will be able to reproduce 4K HDR content with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos with absolute ease.

As for its design, as we already saw in the images leaked a few weeks ago, we say goodbye to the semi-hidden device connected directly to the HDMI port on the TV (and of course USB for power) to find a design that claims to be present and visible on the sideboard where we have the TV. Of course, this is a matter of taste, but I will personally admit that I really like this new design. Except, Hand in hand with this change comes the integration of an Ethernet network port.slightly more than recommended for streaming high definition content.

With this move, Google is trying to change its position in the market with devices of this type, something that started with the arrival of the first 4K version with Google TV. And as I remembered in 2022, with the launch of the HD version, the Chromecast was a very, very economical proposition at the beginning (30 euros). It is true that the HD model, with its price of 39.99 euros, once again broke the entry threshold, but now we find that the price of this new device is practically three times the most economical option so far. And all this also “kills” a brand as established as Chromecast. Bold and risky, no doubt.

Google TV Streamer will go on sale next September 24th in the Google online store and its price will be 119 euros.
