TikTok isn’t just TikTok. The platform has revolutionized everything with its short videos, capturing new generations and keeping them glued to their mobile phone and tablet screens even more.
But TikTok’s new goal is also to become the new WhatsApp. The company announced this Monday Starting group chats on TikTokIt allows you to carry on conversations and share content with up to 32 people in the same group.
The idea is simple but powerful: Until now, those who wanted to share TikTok content had to do so via a WhatsApp message or Apple Messages, but now they’ll be able to do so directly through TikTok’s native messaging tool.
Like the individual messages currently active on TikTok, group chats are only available to users over the age of 15. The company’s managers also assure that they have created security measures to protect young people aged 16-17.
So a user can only join a group chat from a mutual follower. So: If a teen receives an invitation to join a group chat, they won’t be able to join unless they have at least one mutual friend in the group. And those who create a new group chat will need to be the admin, manage and approve those who want to join.
Along with group chats, TikTok also announced: will start offering stickers A personalized option for direct messages, traditionally triumphant in messaging apps, and which will now also strengthen this new ambition of the ByteDance platform.
