A Wi-Fi repeater is the easiest, fastest and most economical way to extend your Internet connection. Due to their quality-price value, they are one of the solutions the most used both at home and at the professional level, although for maximum use it is necessary to follow a number of recommendations that not everyone knows.

In this article I have compiled all these recommendations for you and I’ve grouped them around three great tips which will greatly help you to properly install a Wi-Fi repeater in your home office. I will explain each of these tips in a clear and direct way, but if you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments. If you don’t know what a Wi-Fi repeater is, check out this article.

1.- Do not move the Wi-Fi repeater too far from the router

It is easy to make this mistake when buying a Wi-Fi repeater because we believe that by moving it a little further from the router we will get a few meters of extra coverage in the area we want to reach, but in the end there is a possibility that we will achieve opposite effectand that we end up with serious problems.

Think about what a Wi-Fi repeater does repeat the signal you receive from the router. For this reason, it is important that the signal you receive has adequate strength and stability. If we move the repeater too far from the router, the quality and intensity of the signal it will receive will decrease, which could affect the correct operation of the repeater.

Many repeaters come with sa light signal strength identifier which will help us find the optimal point where we should place them. Do not force the range and always install the repeater in a place where the identifier considers it optimal. AVM also offers free applications that make this task much easier for us, adopting a simple and intuitive interface modeled on FRITZ!OS 7.80.

2.- Be careful with interference and obstacles

Once you have found the optimal distance between the router and the Wi-Fi repeater, you must to find the most suitable place. It’s not difficult, but depending on the layout of your office or the department where you have the router installed, you may need to make some important considerations or change the location of some objects.

A Wi-Fi repeater sends a signal that will be affected by distance as well as sources of interference and obstacles in the way. If you place it in an area where there are many obstacles and/or interference, the signal may not reach the area you wanted to reach, even if the distance to the road is very short.

You should place the repeater in a place where there are not many obstacles that could limit its effective range, and it is also important that Preferably avoid sources of interferenceas these are the ones that have the most effect on the repeater signal. For example, microwaves, Bluetooth, surveillance cameras and motion sensors are major sources of interference.

3.- Find a high and open place

Wi-Fi is transmitted via donut-shaped radio waves. To maximize their range and signal quality, it is ideal to start from a location that is as open and elevated as possible. Although it’s quite simple, it’s also still one of the more unknown keys among Wi-Fi users and can make a big difference.

We should avoid placing the Wi-Fi repeater in an outlet that is very close to the ground whenever possible. The plugs, right? they are at half heightand which are commonly found at almost the same level as light switches, are the best choice. If we only have plugs that are at this level, we can resort table repeaters such as the FRITZ!Repeater 3000 AX.

If we follow these three tips to the letter, we will install our Wi-Fi repeater in the optimal place, which will allow it to work stably and develop the maximum level of performance. In case the location of your home office does not allow you to avoid certain obstacles, or if you have to travel a long distance, keep this in mind You can always turn to a PLC with a Wi-Fi repeater function.
