He South Korean President Yun Seok-yeolsuggested starting a dialogue with North Korean regime for the purpose of considering “any topic” and move towards the unification of the peninsulaThat’s a distant prospect at this point between two countries that are technically still at war.

Yun believes that the “liberation” achieved after Japan’s surrender in 1945 remains “incomplete.” and advocated that the “frozen kingdom of the North” should also enjoy the same freedom as the South and be able to rise in terms of social development.

The President of South Korea stressed that this act is dedicated specifically to the end of the Japanese yoke.

Complete liberation can come only when a free and democratic united nation rightfully belonging to the peoples of the entire Korean Peninsula is established.

According to Yun, this approach satisfies a number of key requirements, including protecting freedom in South Korea and stopping any potential destabilization. He also promised a massive aid program in exchange for Pyongyang’s steps toward denuclearization and noted that even in the current context of tensions, Seoul continues to offer humanitarian aid, as it did during the recent floods.

Besides, He proposed to push for change in North Korea through information from abroad and improvements in the human rights situation. In this sense appealed to the “right to information” so it is the citizens who become aware of the real situation their country is living in, which is what Yoon says happens to those who flee to South Korea when they begin to have access to a free press.

However, on the other side of the border Kim Jong-un’s regime has shown no sign of agreeing to dialogue, which was discussed in 2018 and 2019.in an unprecedented effort promoted from the White House by then-United States President Donald Trump.

Kim Jong-un dropped the concept of peaceful unification from his national political principles this year and repealed laws that had promoted economic cooperation with South Korea while raising fears of a new arms race and nuclear weapons for the purpose of even conflict.

Historical heritage

August 15 is one of the few days that commemorates the two Koreas at the same time, which also share a common criticism of the vision that Japan still holds. On Thursday, several ministers of the Fumio Kishida government visited Yakusuni Shrine to to honor the memory of those killed in the conflict.

The minister has visited the controversial monument for the fifth year in a row.and Kishida decided to send an offering.

South Korea’s foreign minister was quick to express his “deep disappointment” at the gestures, saying Yasukuni “glorifies Japan’s aggressive past.”

We call on Japan’s responsible leaders to confront history and demonstrate through their actions humble reflection and genuine remorse for what happened in the past.
