OpenAI generally provides developers with refinement features for its flagship model GPT-4o.
OpenAI’s GPT-4o model is trained on large datasets covering a wide range of topics. You could call the model a generalist, it knows enough about everything, but it is not a specialist. To offer developers the opportunity to use the model in specific domains, OpenAI is adding refinement options for GPT-4o. Developers will receive one million free training tokens per day for GPT-4o and two million per day for GPT-4o mini until September 23rd. After that, the refinement options will come with a price tag.
From the generalist…
OpenAI’s flagship model, GPT-4o, is a multimodal model that seamlessly combines text, images, and audio. GPT-4o is able to respond quickly to voice messages, making it almost feel like you’re talking to a person. The model is trained on a large dataset covering a wide range of topics.
To the specialist
Fine-tuning is used to adapt pre-trained AI models to a specific command or dataset. The purpose is to train the model within a specific knowledge domain and then use it for specific scenarios. OpenAI is now opening up refinement options for the GPT-4o model for developers.
With these new opportunities for Fine-tuning Developers can train the model with custom datasets based on a specific domain to achieve higher performance at lower cost.
“From coding to creative writing, refinement can have far-reaching effects on model performance across all domains. “This is just the beginning: we will continue to invest in expanding our model customization capabilities for developers,” the announcement said. According to OpenAI, the refined GPT-4o models delivered excellent results in testing.
Price tag
The cost of continuing to develop OpenAI’s flagship product is $24 per million tokens. After staking, this amount will be $3.75 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens. OpenAI also announced that developers will receive one million free training tokens per day for GPT-4o and two million per day for GPT-4o mini until September 23.
