Last month, Neuralink experts successfully implanted their neurochip into a second patient, known as Alex. The operation was a success, with the paralysed man being discharged from hospital the very next day.
According to Neuralink, once the implant is fully operational, it takes less than five minutes for Alex to begin controlling the cursor with his thoughts.
After the initial research session, Alex went on to independently test the neurochip’s capabilities, using it to play the first-person shooter Counter-Strike 2.
Commenting on the news of Alex’s success, Neuralink founder Elon Musk said that in a few years, hundreds of people will have Neuralink brain chips. In five years – perhaps tens of thousands, in ten years – millions.
