When designing the AI, Google chose to use extensions so that Gemini could interact with its other services and apps. The first extensions to arrive were Google Maps, Drive, YouTube, and YouTube Music, with Keep, Tasks, and Utilities being added more recently. Next focus on messaging.
Gemini will have three new extensions: WhatsApp, Google Messages and Notifications. All three will allow Google’s AI to send messages, make calls, or check the messages we receive. They don’t work yet, but we know what they’ll be used for.
Geminis, write to mom on WhatsApp
Gemini allows us to enable extensions so that AI can interact with other services. They are optional and growing slowly add more services and applicationsMost of the extensions are for Google apps, but there is also room for third-party apps like Spotify or, soon, WhatsApp.
Now we know that Gemini will go texting With a pack of three additional extensions that will give you new superpowers and the ability to do something Google Assistant can already do but Gemini can’t yet: send via WhatsApp. Here are the three extensions that are on the way and their official descriptions:
WhatsApp: Send messages or make calls via WhatsApp app for Android.
Notifications: Read and send Android system notifications.
Messages: Send or read messages via the Google Messages app on Android.

While we haven’t been able to implement these extensions yet, we can get an idea that Gemini could do so in the future. Read notifications on your mobile phone and send messages from WhatsApp or select Messages. For example, we need to be able to ask you to send your grandmother a birthday wish via WhatsApp.
While it was already possible to send messages and make WhatsApp calls with Google Assistant, the biggest difference was that in this case it was a strict method where you had to specify who and what to write to. Gemini, on the other hand, will be able to use the magic of artificial intelligence Interact with WhatsApp in ways that were never possible before.
