DuckDuckGo lets you take a look at its maps. The company is making the source code of its macOS web browser open source, with the Windows version’s code to follow later.
DuckDuck Go announced via its fan page on Reddit that it is making the source code of its macOS web browser open source. The source code can be found on Github. At the end of 2022, DuckDuckGo launched its first web browser for the Apple operating system.
A browser for Windows followed a year later. DuckDuckGo says that this code will soon be open source as well. Although DuckDuckGo, like its search engine, does not play a major role in the browser market, its focus on privacy can provide an interesting alternative to services from Google, Apple and Microsoft.
DuckDuckGo strives to make as many of its services as possible open source. This was previously done with the source code of mobile applications and TrackerRadar. Users and experts get a look behind the scenes of DuckDuckGo.
In addition, DuckDuckGo is one of the few Internet browsers that is open source. The most famous examples are undoubtedly Firefox and Brave. Other open source browsers are niche players such as Min, Waterfox and Basilisk, which are not known to the general public. Google Chrome and Edge, for example, are based on the open source Chromium engine but keep their internal kitchen closed.
