ChromeOS 128 introduces a popular Windows 11 feature to Chromebooks: Snap Layout for organizing multiple windows.

Google is starting to roll out the stable version of ChromeOS 128 to Chromebook owners. The new version of the operating system introduces a feature that will be familiar to Windows 11 users: Snap groups. The functionality is almost identical to the snap windows in Windows 11.

Win + Z: For many Windows 11 users, this keyboard shortcut is deeply embedded in their brains. Microsoft introduced Snap Layouts in Windows 11 to give users more options for placing multiple applications on your screen. The Snap feature makes it easy to organize different windows into a handful of useful layouts that you can arrange to your own liking, without any additional software.

With ChromeOS 128, Chromebook users will get similar functionality. Snap groups are formed by linking two windows together in a split screen. You can bring the windows back together, resize them at the same time, or move them both as a group. The GIF below shows how the feature works in ChromeOS.

Another new feature in ChromeOS 128 is text recognition via the camera app. It will be able to filter text from images or read text aloud. The function should work with 77 languages and the camera app can “read” both horizontally and vertically.

ChromeOS 128 also gets better audio and privacy settings for the microphone. The software now automatically adjusts the microphone volume during video calls. The settings for controlling your microphone and camera’s access to applications are easier to find in Settings. Finally, ChromeOS can also automatically check for updates.
