Russia wants Kamala Harris to win the US presidential election. President Vladimir Putin made the claim Thursday in a mocking comment in which he credited her “infectious” laugh as the reason he chose her over Donald Trump.

Putin made the ironic comment a day after the US Justice Department indicted two Russian media executives on charges of an alleged illegal plot to influence the November election with pro-Russian propaganda.

Before US President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Putin said earlier this year (in another comment that many are not taking seriously) that he preferred Biden beat Trump because he was an ‘old school’ politician more predictable.

However, US intelligence agencies believe that Moscow actually wants Trump to win because it less committed to supporting Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Asked how he views the election now, Putin said at an economic forum in Russia’s Far East that it is the choice of the American people.

But he then added that, just as Biden had encouraged his supporters to back Harris, “We will do the same, we will support her.”

Putin and the moderator smiled as he made the comment, which drew applause from the audience.

Explaining his views on Harris, Putin said: “He laughs so expressively and infectiously that it means he’s doing well.”

He added that this might mean he would hold off on imposing further sanctions on Russia. On the contrary, Putin said Trump, as president, had imposed more sanctions on Russia than anyone in the White House before him.
