Amazon Web Services (AWS) has released the alpha version of the open source Storage Browser component for S3.

AWS Storage Browser for S3 integrates with web applications and provides users with access to a simple interface for managing data in S3. The tool is available in the AWS Amplify JavaScript and React libraries.

Storage Browser for S3 enables developers to provide their users with the ability to view, download, and upload files in S3 from within their own applications. The component displays only the data that users have access to according to the permissions set.

By integrating with AWS security and identity services or through proprietary managed services, developers can control access to S3 data based on the identities of their end users.

The Storage Browser offers three main views:

• An overview of S3 resources to which the user has access
• A detailed view for browsing files and folders
• An action view for actions such as uploading files.

The component also automatically optimizes data traffic for faster file sharing.

Options for customization and future use

Developers can customize the interface to match the design of their existing applications. AWS encourages feedback from the developer community to further improve the features. While the overall response has been positive, some users noted that the search functionality is currently missing. This feature may be added in future updates.

The component supports multiple authentication and authorization methods, including AWS IAM Identity Center, Amplify Auth, and Custom Auth. This gives developers the flexibility to choose the method that best fits their application.
