Google has added new security and productivity features to Chrome Enterprise, the business version of its web browser.
Chrome Enterprise is getting a major update from Google. One of the most important new features is the introduction of so-called Device Trust Connectors. These connectors provide integrations with Okta, Ping and Cisco Duo, services that companies use to manage login requests. These integrations make it easier for organizations to implement context-aware access.
This means that the login process is customized based on the device data. For example, employees logging in from an unknown device may be required to provide additional authentication, such as two-factor authentication via a YubiKey. For known devices, less stringent login procedures may suffice.
Device Trust Connectors enable Chrome Enterprise to collect the device information needed to enable this contextual access, reducing manual effort for IT administrators, according to Google.
Manage personal devices
Google has made some improvements in terms of productivity. A new sign-in menu gives employees more information about what data their organization can see through Chrome Enterprise. In addition, a new tool makes it easier to transfer data such as bookmarks and settings from a personal to a work profile. The new tab interface is also getting an update with Google Calendar integration. This allows users to view their calendar without having to manually open the application.
Additionally, Google is introducing new features in Chrome for organizations where employees use personal devices. Employees can manage both their personal and work profiles in Chrome Enterprise. The new controls allow companies to apply their security policies to work profiles without affecting users’ personal profiles.
According to SiliconAngle, IT administrators will also gain access to a new cloud-based dashboard. This dashboard provides visibility into the work profiles they manage, including details such as browser extensions installed and browser version used. This will allow them to better monitor the security of the work profiles.
Google continues to work on future features such as cross-device syncing of tab groups and suggesting previously opened tabs.
