Andy Mindt, Volkswagen’s head of design, said in an interview with Top Gear that the company will improve the quality of materials in new cars and give up cheap plastic.

We will try to get rid of cheap plastic materials and invest in fabrics and quality improvements, which will save you money and allow it to be used elsewhere. An example would be a door map with three parts. Instead, we will try to design it with a single island in the middle. The door handle and armrest will remain the same, but they will all be made of one piece. This will also make the entire process more sustainable. Andy Mindt

As for future design plans, he added: “I think most people don’t want to be the coolest or look aggressive in public. They want to have a suit and a beautiful appearance, as well as being happy and optimistic. What’s the need to be aggressive? That’s what we’re about: being the good guys.”
