Canonical has announced the release of Ubuntu Core 22, a fully containerized version of Ubuntu 22.04 LTS for IoT and embedded devices. If you have options to use Ubuntu Core 22, you can download it right away.

In Ubuntu Core all software is in containers – it’s a weird way of saying everything comes in one package on the fly. This allows you to seamlessly update your kernel, operating system, and over-the-air apps. Programs will not face any dependency issues when using snapshots as they all come with software. If something goes wrong with the update, the system will automatically revert to the previous working version.

Canonical describes Ubuntu Core 22 as a low-contact system as it comes with advanced out-of-the-box security measures. These measures include secure boot, full disk encryption, secure recovery, and strict restrictions on operating systems and programs. Canonical has been releasing an update for Ubuntu Core 22 for 10 years, so once you install it you won’t have to mess with it for a while.
