On June 15, Microsoft stopped supporting Internet Explorer. While Nikkei and Bloomberg ironically said goodbye to the browser on social networks, Japanese government agencies and commercial organizations panicked as they didn’t switch to more modern browsers until the last minute.

When it became known that Internet Explorer support was ending, Tokyo software developer Computer Engineering & Consulting began flooding with requests for help. These are mostly approached by government agencies, financial institutions, manufacturing and logistics companies that operate only on Internet Explorer compatible sites.

A study by Keyman’s Net found that many organizations in Japan trust Internet Explorer. Additionally, 49% of respondents said they use this browser to manage employee engagement, costing, and other internal tools.

In some cases, companies have no choice but to use Internet Explorer through their client systems to process orders. More than 20% of organizations don’t know how to switch to another browser. Companies were supposed to switch to modern browsers a year ago, but they never did.

“Japanese love security. The larger the organization or government, the more reluctant they are to move. The biggest problem is when it comes to government sites, vendors who can implement such large systems,” Titsumeikan Uehara, a professor at Ritsumeikan University, told Bloomberg. the number of which is limited.

Microsoft has ported Internet Explorer users to Edge, a Chromium browser that is compatible with Chrome extensions and supports many of the same features. Microsoft has integrated Internet Explorer mode into Edge, which will be supported for an additional period after June 15.
