When should you expect Apple Intelligence?

In September, Apple said it planned to release the update “next month” but did not announce specific dates. Apple Intelligence will be available, according to Mark Gurman, who writes regular columns for Bloomberg 28 October. It looks like all major operating systems will be released on this day, including iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1.

These updates will bring some of the first Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone 16 and Pro versions of previous-generation smartphones.

The first wave will include the text editor and summary tool Writing Tools, as well as intelligent voice recording and transcription for Mail, Notes, Pages, and other apps.

We’re also likely to see a new Memories feature in the Photos app, which should be an easy-to-use editor for creating videos with images from the gallery, as well as a Cleanup feature that will remove objects from images.

iOS 18.2 will bring much more

The next update is expected in December. However, there is no exact date this time. Any features not included in iOS 18.1 will most likely appear in this version, given that it will be the last possibility for a release by the end of 2024.

  • ChatGPT support in Siri. Previously, Tim Cook stated that ChatGPT integration would happen “by the end of the calendar year.” This is one of the most anticipated features, but Siri has long been criticized because Apple’s voice assistant is not at the same level as its competitors and cannot meet all needs. Artificial intelligence should strengthen this service and provide it with much wider possibilities.
  • Expanding Apple Intelligence to new countries. Apple’s AI has been tested for a long time, although it has not yet been released, but only in English in the US. The feature set will reportedly expand to other English-speaking countries, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Availability in other languages is not yet known, but there is no doubt that this is also in the plans.
  • Genmoji and Image Playground. We saw Apple’s rendering features at WWDC in June, but no betas have been released since then. While there are no specific leaks or confirmations from Apple as to when we’ll see these features, it seems quite likely that it will happen in iOS 18.2. Genmoji is responsible for creating new emojis and stickers, while Image Playground is responsible for creating images based on text descriptions.

iOS 18.2 will also have many non-AI features. For example, the AirPods Pro 2’s hearing health features include the ability to use headphones as hearing aids, an updated Mail app with a new design and categorization, the mandatory EU browser selection screen, robot vacuum cleaner support, and more.
