The Lunar PC is a mini computer with a keyboard design launched by Chinese manufacturer Linglong as a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. And it’s really cool.

Since the dawn of the client computer era, manufacturers have been putting the electronics necessary for their computers into keyboards. And this is proven by designs like the Commodore 64, which also boasts of being the best-selling home computer in history, with sales approaching 23 million units in two decades on the market. Recently, the $70 Raspberry Pi 400 reminded us that—although not widely used—this format is still alive and well.

The design is visible. It is a mini-PC that can be deployed thanks to a hinge system to reveal the keyboard. It measures 153 x 110 x 30 mm when folded or 290 x 110 x 15 mm when unfolded. Its chassis is made of aluminum and weighs 800 grams.

Its keyboard has 1.2mm scissor switches, it has a mini touchpad located between the space bar and the arrow keys. Its main use is as an input device for the computer itself, but it could also be used as a Bluetooth keyboard for other devices. It contains a 59.2 Wh battery that allows it to be used without connecting to the network for 8 to 10 hours. A portable solution which can be taken to the office, home or anywhere.

And the hardware is not bad at all, on the processor AMD Ryzen 7 8840U low voltage that is typically used in portable computers. It can contain up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x-6400 memory and a 1 TB PCIe Gen4 SSD.

In terms of connectivity, it is also sufficient. It is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and in addition to USB 3.2 Type-C and Type A, it has new USB4 ports. The Kickstarter campaign also mentions a Gigabit Ethernet port, but in the pictures and we think it won’t be there either. It is essential in a laptop. We can connect the computer to any TV, desktop screen or portable monitor that supports USB or use a USB to HDMI or DisplayPort adapter. It also supports wireless displays.

The Lunar PC is available on Kickstarter in different versions, such as one with a Ryzen 7 8840U with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. 579 dollars run a promotion. The manufacturer promises its delivery in January 2025 with shipments anywhere in the world. A great design that can be very useful as a portable computer that can be taken anywhere.
