According to the Kaspersky team, Google’s decision was made in response to recent measures taken by the US government. These state that the distribution and sale of the company’s products are restricted as of September 29.
What happened. Kaspersky developer account has been removed from Play Store. When suspended, all apps from the Google store disappear. It is not possible for us to access again or update the applications we downloaded.
The company claims that this restriction is due to an “overinterpretation of US restrictions.” On Thursday, June 20, the US Department of Commerce banned US customers from using Russian Kaspersky software.
“Kaspersky will no longer be able to sell its software in the United States or provide updates to software already in use, among other activities.”
According to the ministry, the final decision must be made because “the company’s ongoing operations in the United States pose a risk to national security” and accused the Russian government of using and exploiting companies such as Kaspersky to collect sensitive personal information.
However, these measures are expected to only affect Kaspersky users in the United States. Despite this, Google also deleted the company’s developer account in Europe and blocked access to its applications. In the case of iOS, applications are still available via the App Store.
What will happen to the applications I install?. If we have installed Kaspersky applications on our Android mobile phone, we can continue to use them and they will not be deleted without our permission. The main problem is that we cannot update them from the Google store because they are not hosted on the Play Store.
Kaspersky ensures that applications continue to operate normally and receive database updates via cloud infrastructure. All paid functions will continue to work and nothing will change except that the app cannot be updated or reinstalled from the Play Store.
