Graphics tablets are no longer an exclusive toy for professional designers. With the rise of digital creativity and social networks, more and more users are interested in this type of tool, from amateur illustrators to photographers looking for something more in retouching. And here comes the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K), a bet from Huion that, with its high resolution and wide options, aims to become a great choice for those who want to make a leap in quality in their creative work. It is a mid-range graphics tablet with a QHD screen, wide color gamut and a high-sensitivity digital pen. Let’s look a little more at its features.

The box already welcomes us to the world of tablet possibilities with a beautiful illustration on the outside and optimization of the space inside. After opening it, we find several perfectly integrated boxes in which, in addition to the tablet itself and the pencil, we find some accessories, such as a pencil holder with spare heads (of two types, which we will talk about later), the necessary cables and some accessories depending on your device , a metal pad, a screen cleaning cloth and now a classic glove to avoid contact with the back of your hand.

A screen that shines in detail and color

One of the highlights of the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) is its 15.8-inch screen with a QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution and a density of 186 pixels per inch (PPI). These features ensure that images and details are sharp, which is essential for the type of activity it is aimed at. As with any monitor, there is a really noticeable leap in this respect compared to its predecessors. And the canvas is pleasantly wide compared to the 13-inch range, which sometimes sags a little and does not allow for smooth movement of the hand with the pencil. With these almost 16 inches, this “annoyingness” is noticeably reduced, I can’t imagine even bigger models.

In addition, the display uses quantum dot technology, an innovation in high-end devices that not only improves the color gamut, which covers 145% of the sRGB space, but also reduces the emission of blue light, making it easier on the eyes for long work sessions. In terms of color fidelity, we are talking about 16.7 million colors, which makes it possible to work with complex palettes and create more vivid and realistic works. This is a big plus for graphic designers who rely on accurate color rendering.

Another important aspect if we look at the screen is the contrast, in this case 1200:1, which offers a clear distinction between shadows and highlights. In practice, this means that both dark and light details are seen more accurately, which you will especially appreciate when working on illustrations with a lot of shading or on photos that require detailed lighting correction.

Full lamination: the precision and feel of paper

One of the most important points of any graphics tablet is the drawing experience it offers. In this case, the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) screen has lamination technology that almost completely eliminates parallax, that small difference between where you see the tip of the pen and where the cursor actually touches the screen. This results in more precision in the line, which translates into a more natural drawing experience. In addition, the anti-reflective surface of the screen imitates the texture of paper and thus achieves a feeling similar to working in a physical notebook. All of this bridges the obvious distances, but with the added benefits of digital work.

The 178° viewing angle ensures that no matter where you look at the screen, the image remains true to color and brightness. This is especially useful when, for example, you move a lot while creating, because the side view does not distort the result.

Digital pen: fluency and control

The digital pen that accompanies the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K), PW517, offers 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, allowing for smooth transitions between different line thicknesses depending on the pressure applied, and a response speed of 300 PPS, so that the cursor smoothly follows the movement of the hand. Admittedly, for the way of use I put the tablet in the analysis (mainly graphic design and some simple illustrations), it is difficult to judge the execution of these pressure levels. The pen is really sensitive to stroke, but neither my hand nor my eye could tell the difference between 1000 levels of pressure up or down.

The pen also has a tilt range of ±60°, meaning you can simulate traditional shading techniques by tilting the pen, which is particularly useful in illustration. It requires no battery or charging, eliminating the stress of having to charge in the middle of a burst of inspiration or when deadlines are looming.

Another point that caught my eye is that the pencil has two types of tips: a standard and a felt tip that offers more friction, which is an ideal choice if you prefer a more papery feel that blends perfectly with the texture of the screen.

However, the hand feel in terms of materials and quality leaves a bit to be desired. It’s true that not being heavy provides comfort in use, but it’s also harder to finish. The same goes for the base, which has a less premium look than the tablet itself and almost looks like it came from a different product packaging.

Ergonomics and portability

Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) also stands out with its design. It’s only 11.5mm thick and weighs 1.28kg, making it a surprisingly thin and light tablet despite its size. This feature makes it easy to transport, which is a plus point for artists who need to transport their work to different locations or who like to work outdoors. Admittedly, since even Huion emphasizes this portability profile, it would have been appreciated if it included a case in which to transport the tablet. On the official website, we can find generic backpacks or cases for devices up to 16 inches, but a simple case would be useful not only for transport, but also for storage that protects the display.

An interesting feature of Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) is the auxiliary monitor, so you don’t have to attach and detach it when not in use. However, it is important to note that its size requires considerable desktop space. This can be a bit of a nuisance if you have a build that isn’t very large. Ultimately, the ideal solution is to find a balance between the canvas size that is most practical for you and the space you have available.

The connectivity of this Huion tablet is quite flexible. You can connect it to your computer, tablet or phone, which is very useful if you work on different devices. It is software compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. In addition, it is compatible with most design and drawing programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, SAI and CorelDRAW. In terms of connectivity, it should be noted that while the power cord includes an extension cord, it’s still somewhat short, which might require an additional extension cord depending on your desk. The same cable is a bit awkwardly placed in its connection to the tablet itself in terms of the cable output, which may be more ‘friendly’ to a laptop or similar due to the position, but it can be annoying. due to its orientation and stiffness.

To optimize the workflow, we find 8 programmable keys located on the side. These can be configured for quick actions such as Undo, Redo, resizing the brush, zoom… Especially useful when we have no choice but to zoom out of the keyboard when removing the tablet. Being able to customize these shortcuts can save you time if you’re that type of person. I hope to one day be as efficient as using all 8, but for now I’m happy with Undo, Redo, and canvas movement.

Conclusions

Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) is a graphics tablet that offers a very complete experience for designers, illustrators and even technical profiles such as architects. Its high-resolution display and wide color gamut ensure sharp and accurate images, while full lamination technology ensures a drawing experience without annoying parallax. The pencil is really responsive and fast, added to the texture of the pointer and the screen it provides a very paper-like drawing experience.

While its size can be awkward in small workspaces, it’s true that at 15.8 inches, it’s light and easy to handle. In short, the Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) is positioned as a good choice for professionals and hobbyists looking for a powerful, accurate and convenient tool to take their creativity to the next level.

Kamvas Pro 16 (2.5K) is available from Huion’s official website for €509 (previously €599) and retail channels such as Amazon.
