With the Dimensity 9400, MediaTek is focusing on the most expensive smartphone models. The processor is ready for the latest technical gadgets, such as agent AI.
MediaTek, Qualcomm’s challenger in the smartphone industry, has unveiled its latest processor, Dimensity 9400. The processor is intended for flagship smartphones released next year. In this class it has to compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which is also expected to be announced this month.
The CPU has eight cores. The most powerful core is an ArmCortex-X925 (3.62 GHz), supported by four Arm Cortex-X4 and three Cortex-A720 cores. MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9400 delivers up to 35 percent better performance per core than its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, and 28 percent higher multi-core performance. The chip is also said to be up to forty percent more energy efficient.
Agent AI ready
In addition to a CPU, the core is also equipped with a 12-core Immortalis G925 GPU for graphics work. We live in the age of AI and hence the mention of an NPU is mandatory. The neural processing unit The processor was developed by MediaTek in-house and can run smaller AI models on the device without having to go to the cloud. According to MediaTek, this means the device is ready for the latest technology trend: Agentic AI.
MediaTek also apparently expects a “triple” phone breakthrough. You can unfold this novel foldable phone like a brochure. Huawei, among others, has already shown a concept phone in this style, although we would be surprised if we saw the first commercial models as early as 2025. In any case, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is designed to adapt to this type of folding line.
The chances of you buying a phone with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 are not that great. Chinese smartphone brands will probably use the processor, but for devices they launch on their own market. For Europe, manufacturers usually swear by Qualcomm.
