What’s new on YouTube
Playback speed control
One of the most important updates is the introduction of more precise playback speed control. Previously, users could only adjust video playback speed in 0.25x increments. With the new update, YouTube now allows you to adjust the speed in smaller increments of 0.05x.
Users can tap the “+” or “-” symbols in the updated menu to adjust the playback speed according to their preferences.
sleep timer
Additionally, YouTube has added a sleep timer feature for all users, which was previously only available to YouTube Premium owners. This feature allows users to set a timer that will stop playback after a selected amount of time.
Shared playlists
The new update also makes it easier to create and share collaborative playlists. Users can now invite others to join their playlists using shared links or QR codes. Contributors can add their own photos as thumbnails or use YouTube’s GenAI tool. While playlist contributors cannot currently vote on videos, this feature will be implemented later.
Design changes
Other changes include improvements to the mobile app’s design, particularly in landscape mode on Android devices, where larger video thumbnails and text make navigation easier. The video player has also been optimized to be more responsive to user actions. These features are expected to be implemented on iOS in the future.
The mini player has become more convenient for users, allowing them to change the size and move it on the screen while viewing content. YouTube has developed the Shorts interface for TV app users. Creators will also enjoy the new icon set added to improve engagement with viewers.
