Developer NTDEV submitted a a new version of the lightweight operating system. Tiny11 24H2 is based on the Long Term Service Channel (LTSC) version and as a side note has been scaled down considerably to fit on DVD.

A few weeks ago, Microsoft released the Windows 11 2024 Update (24H2) in Home and Pro client versions, business, education and long-term support versions. Based on this version, NTDEV created a project that we like since its first version, because it is responsible for reducing a large number of components, services and applications of the official Windows 11 to a minimum.

The goal of the new version remains the same as all the previous ones. And it achieves something many of us desire: a much lighter operating systemwhich contains only the necessary functions, although others can be installed at any time according to the needs of each user. In addition to the reduction Bloatware At its minimum (the unnecessary software that comes with Windows 11), this variant also lowers the minimum requirements, allowing the system to be installed on older machines or those that do not meet the official requirements. And all without sacrificing hardware compatibility or key features.

In addition to what is known for its lightness and the ability to run a version with a reduced amount of memory (previous versions were able to run on up to 176 MB of RAM) the author emphasized small image size, “only” 3.54GB and therefore can be burned and played on a DVD optical drive.

This was made possible by LZX delta compression. For those unfamiliar with LZX compression or Extended Lempel-Ziv is an LZ77-based compression engine used to compress NTFS files. NTFS (New technology file system) is still the main file system used by Windows for managing system partitions. In the latest feature update, Microsoft made improvements to ReFS (Resilient File System), but these improvements are not intended for the average user, so NTFS is still recommended on Windows.

Finish by saying that we couldn’t download Tiny11 24H2 because the internet archive where it is hosted is still recovering from last week’s DDoS attacks. We will update the link as it becomes available.
