According to the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2024, Microsoft customers are exposed to more than 600 million cyberattacks every day. Such attacks range from ransomware, phishing and other identity thefts. The majority of these attacks are password-based. Additionally, Microsoft also sheds light on the role of AI and state actors in the changing threat landscape.

600 million cyberattacks

Cybercriminals have more and better tools at their disposal to carry out their attacks, with AI also playing an important role. Microsoft shared striking numbers in its 2024 Digital Defense Report. Microsoft customers face more than 600 million cyberattacks every day, ranging from ransomware to phishing. Furthermore, more than 99 percent of these attacks are password-based. This shows once again how important a reliable password manager is.

In addition, it is not only private users who are exposed to such attacks. Cybercriminals often target companies or government agencies. Additionally, the type of cyber attacker varies, from the common cybercriminal to more aggressive state actors. In its report, Microsoft cites three examples of countries (China, Russia and Iran) that have been identified as key drivers of state-sponsored cyberattacks.
