Apple is working behind the scenes to prepare to add new Apple Intelligence features
iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15. We will get the first set of updates to iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, but Apple is also preparing for the next batch.

In base code MacRumors discovered new integration connections siri with ChatGPTWhile Apple is preparing to introduce ChatGPT support. The ‌Siri‌ code mentions options for ChatGPT-generated text and ChatGPT-generated images, two features that Apple plans to implement in the near future.

ChatGPT’s ‌Siri‌ integration was announced as part of Apple’s Intelligence feature set announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference, and is what Apple plans to introduce by the end of the year. ChatGPT integration is not included in the current software Apple is testing, but we expect it to appear in iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2.

‌Siri‌ with ChatGPT integration was first revealed in October, and we also saw references to Visual Intelligence, another AI feature Apple is working on. Talking about images and text separately is a new thing today, and it’s clear that Apple continues to work on getting these features ready for launch.

With ChatGPT integration, when users ask ‌Siri‌ a complex question that the personal assistant cannot solve, ‌Siri‌ will offer to forward the request to ChatGPT. ChatGPT will provide relevant information to be transmitted via ‌Siri‌.

ChatGPT will be able to render both text and images, and although Apple Intelligence includes some of these features, ChatGPT is more advanced. For example, Apple’s writing tools can offer help with spelling and grammar or change the tone of what you’ve already written; ChatGPT, on the other hand, can create text from scratch with a simple prompt.

Image Playground and Genmoji let you create cartoon-like images and custom emojis, but ChatGPT’s rendering features can be used for more realistic images. ‌Siri‌ will reference the latest GPT-4o model, and ChatGPT integration will be free with no need to create an account. Apple and OpenAI will not store ChatGPT requests made from Apple devices and IP addresses will be hidden.

Visual Intelligence is an iPhone 16 feature that uses the camera control button. ‌iPhone 16‌ users will be able to point their cameras at objects or locations around them, and the iPhone will provide information on what is displayed when the camera control button is pressed and held.

iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and “macOS Sequoia” 15.1 are expected to be released on Monday, October 28, and we will most likely get the first beta versions of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and “macOS Sequoia” 15.2 shortly thereafter. If testing follows other .2 updates, the software will be released in December.

Along with ChatGPT and Visual Intelligence integration, iOS 18.2 may bring support for Image Playground, Genmoji, and Image Wand, the Notes app’s feature to create images from text or simple drawings.
