President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelenskysaid on Friday that Russia plans to deploy North Korean troops to the battlefield starting in the next few days. October 27 and 28with reference to intelligence data.

“According to intelligence agencies, Russia is expected to send the first North Korean soldiers into combat zones between October 27 and 28. This is a clear escalation on the part of Russia,” Zelensky said on social network X after receiving reports from his top commander.

Zelensky did not specify which sector of the front the North Korean soldiers were supposed to be sent to, and did not provide any other details.

Ukrainian military intelligence said Thursday that the first North Korean units have already registered in the Russian border region of Kursk, where the Ukrainian military has been operating since a major invasion in August.

About 12,000 North Korean soldiers, including 500 officers and three generals, are already in Russia undergoing training at five military bases, he said.

The United States said it had seen evidence of North Korean troops in Russia, and South Korean lawmakers said about 3,000 troops had been sent to support the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine, with more to come.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Moscow must decide how to implement its association pact with Pyongyang, which he said includes a mutual assistance clause for each side to help the other fend off external aggression.

Putin did not deny the presence of North Korean troops in Russia. “This is our business,” he said.
