Copilot features are now available for Microsoft 365 private formulas. This will inevitably be accompanied by a price increase.

Microsoft has good news and bad news for users with a 365 Personal or Family subscription. These formulas are aimed at private individuals, but are also very popular with sole proprietors and SMEs as they are cheaper than the business formulas. Subscribers will soon pay more for their subscription.

Copilot is also coming to private subscriptions, Microsoft confirms in a blog. Microsoft introduced Copilot a year ago as part of its Business 365 offering. Private users will soon also be able to play with Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook as well as the Designer image editor.

Microsoft is initially launching Copilot for private individuals in some Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. Although this is not mentioned verbatim in the blog, we suspect that other markets will soon follow suit.

22 euros per month

There is something associated with the addition of copilot. Microsoft announces that prices for 365 Personal and Family subscriptions will increase, but does not provide further details. According to ZDNet, this would be a price increase of around 20 euros per month. The private formulas now cost 69 euros (private) or 99 euros (family) per year. For family plans, Copilot is only available for the main account and cannot be shared.

For business users, Copilot is offered as an optional add-on for 22 euros per month. It’s unclear whether Microsoft will pursue a similar strategy for home users. In markets where Copilot is already available, the price increase will be passed on to the next payment, Microsoft said.

Normally, a classic subscription without copilot and at the same price remains. The offer therefore appears to be a no-take-or-take-it approach. This will all become clear as Microsoft rolls out Copilot more broadly to individuals.
