President of Russia, Vladimir Putinratified this Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, signed between Moscow and Pyongyang last June and which includes a clause on mutual military assistance in the event of aggression, while Ukraine and the West condemn the presence of North Korean soldiers on Russian territory.

The corresponding document, published on the legal information portal of the Russian state, states that if one of the signatories is subjected to an armed attack, the other will immediately provide it with military and other assistance.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-unsigned the agreement during the first visit of the Kremlin head to Pyongyang in almost a quarter of a century.

North Korea has already sent about 11,000 troops to Russia, according to Ukraine and some of its allies.

Some have already joined Russian troops fighting the Ukrainian army in the Russian region of Kursk, which borders Ukraine and has been partially occupied by Kyiv forces since August.

Russia, which has not yet confirmed or denied the presence of North Korean troops on its territory, assures that the agreement with the Pyongyang regime is “defensive in nature and is not directed against the security of third countries.”

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Josep Borrell warned this Saturday in Kyiv that the inclusion of North Korean soldiers in the Russian forces fighting against Ukraine represents a “globalization of war” that will have such consequences both locally and locally . in the Far East.

Borrell stressed the need to increase diplomatic pressure on North Korea to prevent Pyongyang from sending more soldiers to fight Russia, and confirmed that his recent trip to South Korea to coordinate a response with Seoul was a step in that direction.

The head of European diplomacy has insisted that Ukraine’s Western partners must allow it to use its weapons to attack military targets located on Russian territory – a demand from Kyiv that has not yet received the green light.
