AYANEO Pocket DMG is a portable console inspired by the design of the legendary Game Boybut with modern components that are combined with a low price to make it more attractive. Introduced at the beginning of the year, it is reaching the international market for the first time through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.
The Pocket DMG is a turnaround in the portable console market that continues to gain deals on a weekly basis. Or daily… Because just yesterday we introduced you to the new Anbernic for retro gaming. Who would have thought for those of us who have experienced the slump in laptop sales that today we would have an offer for everything and everyone.
Its design is visible on a vertical screen similar to the Game Boy, but with a quality suitable for the year 2024, thanks to its panel 3.92 inch OLEDwith a resolution of 1240 x 1080 pixels for 419 pixels per inch and a brightness of up to 450 nits.
Its engine comes from Snapdragon G3x Gen 2. This is Qualcomm’s latest chip designed for portable gaming systems. It has 8 Kryo CPU cores and Adreno A32 graphics. AYANEO says the Pocket DMG has a “flagship” cooling system that combines a fan and passive heatsink for up to 15 watts of cooling power, which should give the processor plenty of room.
The manufacturer mixes new and more traditional control functions. There is a D-Pad, four action buttons and shoulder buttons. But instead of two analog sticks, the Pocket DMG has a single analog stick with a Hall sensor and a touchpad that can be configured to act as a right stick, the R3 button, or as a mouse for navigation.
Other details include a six-axis gyroscope, an X-axis linear motor, a “turbo key” to quickly switch between power profiles, and a fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button. There’s also a ‘MagicSwitch’ wheel on the side that works as a volume button by default, but can also be customized for other functions.
AYANEO Pocket DMG is equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with data transfer speed support up to 10 Gb/s, DisplayPort 1.4 Alt mode for video output and 25W charging support with 6000 mAh battery.
The Chinese manufacturer offers models with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5-8533 memory and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. There is also a microSD 3.0 card reader with a read/write speed of 100 MB/s.
The console is available for pre-order now on Indiegogo and will ship worldwide starting next month. The base configuration has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for the price 339 dollars. The software support is as “retro” as its design, as it works with Android 13.
