Now that the PS5 Pro has arrived, it’s the perfect time to check whether the upgrade that Sony announced with great fanfare is really as spectacular as it says, or if it’s really just another hype of the company’s marketing machine. Alan Wake 2 and ray tracing on PS5 Pro are not up to par

In a video shared by Digital Foundry, we can see how Alan Wake 2 behaves on PS5 Pro with ray tracing enabled. That was it one of the most praised novelties with the arrival of this new console and it makes sense since the PS5 version does not have any type of ray tracing.

The PS5 Pro version has a quality mode that activates ray tracing, but lit mimics your reflex application and scrolls the game at 30 FPS. The differences with the PS5 are noticeable, as without ray tracing the reflections are terrible. Ray tracing applied to reflections is one of the least demanding implementations, but with the biggest impact on graphics quality, so it was the best choice for Sony and Remedy in terms of quality and performance.

Since Alan Wake 2 on PS5 Pro does not use ray tracing in shadows and lighting, The PC version is much better in these respects. Even with low quality ray tracing, the difference in favor of the PC is huge, as can be seen in the various comparison images that appear in the video.

At the end of the video there is a very simple performance test where they confirm that the PS5 Pro runs at around 49 FPS in performance mode (unfortunately the test is static), while the GeForce RTX 3070 reaches 54 FPS. Without activating image generation, The GeForce RTX 4070 achieves 71 FPS, which means it is 41% more powerful than the PS5 Pro GPU.
