Microsoft confirms problems with updating programs in Windows 10

In addition to dealing with Windows 11’s new wave of full-screen ads, Windows 10 PC users are now also facing issues updating or uninstalling apps. Microsoft confirmed the bug and published the details on the official Windows Health Dashboard website.

Unlike other known issues in Windows 10 and 11, the latest bug is not related to a specific Windows update or security patch. Microsoft says the issue is in WinAppSDK 1.6.2, released on November 12, 2024. As a result, Microsoft Store displays a “There was a problem on our end” message when users try to update a bundled app that uses WinAppSDK.

IT administrators who manage batch applications using PowerShell have the following benefits:

If you are an IT administrator trying to manage packaged applications through PowerShell using the Get-AppxPackage command, you will see “Deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x80073CFA”, “Contact your software vendor. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073CFA’) in PowerShell.

The bug affects all kinds of programs. Microsoft Teams and other first-party and third-party apps cannot currently be updated to Windows 10 due to a WinAppSDK error. Microsoft says it’s working to fix the issue via Windows Update or other methods, and a fix will be available within a few days. In the meantime, IT admins can check out GitHub for some PowerShell instructions for fixing problematic devices and stuck apps.
