As we rapidly approach the carbon neutrality target set in the mid-21st century by the Paris Agreement, signed by 195 countries, initiatives aimed at investing in renewable energy and climate technologies have gained importance.

In this context, Aldogreen, founded two years ago in the Netherlands by the Aldo Group, which has been active in the automotive, tourism, industrial, technology and renewable energy sectors since 1969, neutralizes CO2 emissions at device level by reproducing the energy consumed by electronic devices of individuals in solar power plants. The digital product Greenzy took its first step into the Turkish market in collaboration with Türkiye İş Bankası.

Smartphones cause 5 kg of CO2 emissions every year

Calculations showed that the annual electricity consumption of smartphones corresponds to 10.4 kilowatts/hour, and that the annual electricity consumption of smart watches corresponds to 7 kilowatts/hour. The annual CO2 emissions caused by these consumption quantities were measured at 4.9 kilograms and 3.3 kilograms respectively. While the popularization of electric cars and electric scooters increases the electricity consumption of individual users, Greenzy has developed an innovative model for consumers who want to make sustainable choices.

Aldogreen Managing Partner Oytun Eren Şengül states that Greenzy makes it possible to neutralize the CO2 emissions resulting from the daily electricity consumption of electronic devices owned by individuals: “Greenzy produces electricity in solar power plants equal to the annual electricity consumption of the selected device. by the users. In return, users receive a Green Energy Certificate for the device with which they want to neutralize CO2 emissions. “These certificates are recorded on the blockchain so that users can access real-time data on the production of their assigned solar panel at any time,” he said.

Democratization of the carbon market

Oytun Eren Şengül stated that Greenzy essentially distributes enough carbon certificates to users to neutralize the emissions from their devices through the digital Green Energy Certificate it gives to users. “In this regard, Greenzy is also democratizing the carbon market. If more electricity is produced than the consumption neutralized by solar energy, CO2 certificates are sold on the market.

The income from sales is used to plant saplings. “Greenzy, the first product from Aldogreen, the Netherlands-based technology company of Aldo Group, paves the way for every user to contribute to sustainability and green transformation by neutralizing a significant part of individual energy consumption, creating a cyclical sustainability chain .”

In collaboration with İşbank, in Turkey

Aldogreen Managing Partner Oytun Eren Şengül stated that Greenzy will meet users in Turkey for the first time in collaboration with Türkiye İş Bankası and concluded his evaluations with the following statements:

Türkiye İş Bankası, which supports startups with its Workup Entrepreneurship Program and sets an example for its industry by integrating sustainability practices into all its processes, is one of Greenzy’s biggest supporters. With our collaboration with İş Bank, Greenzy is meeting users on the mobile branch İşCep in Turkey for the first time. İşCep users can access the Greenzy platform through the Green Energy section in İşCep. With special discounts for Future Forest users, they can neutralize the CO2 emissions resulting from the energy consumption of their electronic devices such as laptops, mobile phones, smartwatches, wireless headphones, e-bikes, e-scooters and tablets by obtaining a Green Energy certificate. İşbank users, who convert their energy consumption into a Green Energy Certificate, will not only be able to monitor the solar energy produced with their contribution in real time, but will also be able to contribute to planting saplings through the TEMA Foundation by collecting carbon points in the Future Forest.
