There’s no rush for Windows laptops running on ARM. In the third quarter of this year, the devices accounted for just 0.8 percent of the systems delivered.

Laptops with Qualcomm Snapdragon X on board have not yet convinced the market. Despite the great capabilities of ARM-based Windows laptops, they are not finding their way to buyers. In the third quarter of 2024, Snapdragon computers accounted for just 0.8 percent of the market. This percentage is good for 720,000 devices shipped.

The increase compared to the second quarter is high in percentage terms: Qualcomm performed 180 percent better. However, given the recent introduction of the devices, this presents a distorted picture. After all, the market for Qualcomm laptops has only been around since the summer, with the exception of a few niche products.

Surface in the lead

Not surprisingly, Microsoft Surface laptops were the best-selling devices in this segment. After all, Microsoft launched its Snapdagon X laptop before the other manufacturers. Our own testing quickly showed that it was an impressive device.

Other manufacturers also play a role. In particular Dell, which has the XPS 13 9345 on the market, and also HP with its OmniBook series. However, ARM for Windows still remains a small market.

On the other hand, AI computers are gaining market share, although this should come as no surprise. All laptop and processor manufacturers are prophetically proclaiming that AI PCs are the future, and that’s true, because almost all new processors have an NPU on board and all new laptops are therefore labeled as AI PCs. In other words: Anyone who buys a modern new laptop today will automatically receive an AI PC. Whether you can do much with it remains an open question today.
