There is no comment from the social network yet on this news, which has already been spread by technological publications. But it should come as no surprise to anyone who follows Elon Musk’s activities and behavior. 24 Channels We’ve collected everything you need to know about this topic.

What’s happening

To understand what we’re talking about, here’s a little context.

First of all, such a company has existed in the USA for many years. Information Wars. It bills itself as “the world’s #1 independent news service fighting globalism and promoting a pro-human future.” In practice, they are ordinary propagandists who have been spreading invented conspiracy theories and fake news since 1999. The resource gained its initial popularity after the events of September 11, 2001, when it published an interview with actor Charlie Sheen in which his version of events was voiced, another conspiracy theory.

He ran the company, website and YouTube channel throughout this scandalous period alex jones. He is the founder, face and star of the brand. The “news” and conspiracy theories that he first wrote and then voiced gained him popularity in relevant circles. Jones always supported Trump when he was interviewed, and criticized Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, calling them “evil”. Many believe he was the one who carried Trump to victory in 2016. Jones’ employees accused their former employer of sexual harassment, anti-Semitism and racism. He was a frequent guest on Russian state television and his videos were featured on Russia Today.

Jones and his InfoWars are behind numerous and absolutely ridiculous ideas. For example, that Barack Obama is the global leader of Al Qaeda, that the country’s leadership forces American children to be gay, that the US government wants to destroy 80% of the world’s population with the help of technology and exist forever. Add to that countless fictions about the coronavirus, vaccines, the new world order, the shadow government, and more, and you get an idea of what InfoWars is all about.

But the worst thing Jones did was attack the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting. This story has been going on since 2012. We discussed it in detail in a separate article. In short, Jones stated that there was no shooting, the whole thing was a hoax, the victims’ relatives were actors, and the victims never existed. He embraced this story so tightly and spread it for so long that his followers began to persecute the relatives of the murdered children and the teachers. They had to constantly move to new locations where they were subjected to physical violence, threats and other attacks on the streets.

Eventually it got so far that victims of the harassment filed multiple lawsuits against Jones and InfoWars, demanding large sums of money. They won the lawsuit for $1.4 billion, and InfoWars later filed for bankruptcy, claiming it could not pay. Jones expressed regret on camera, but the decision had already been made: It was decided to sell the media outlet to compensate the victims.

Secondly, there is a company in the USA like this Onion. It is a satirical news agency that writes articles for international, national and local news. The publication is accurate but only publishes funny news. The company also publishes humorous reviews and parodies, commentary on current events, and much more.

After the InfoWars empire went bankrupt and was put up for auction, Onion won the auction and gained the right to purchase Alex Jones’ old resources. Guess who opposed this?

Elon Musk enters the game

And finally, we come to Elon Musk’s legal statement. The scandalous billionaire himself is a big fan of conspiracy theories. He was caught repeatedly spreading these or other theses that did not correspond to reality. For example, he promoted misinformation about vaccines and coronavirus and distributed a conspiracy video in which Tucker Carlson claimed that Ukraine, not Russia, blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power plant. He also unblocked the Alex Jones and InfoWars Twitter pages after the purchase, so it can be assumed that Musk was one of the viewers and fans of the project.

Now Elon Musk is trying to derail the recent acquisition of media company InfoWars, specifically its pages on social network X. He claims that his social media accounts cannot be auctioned because they belong to X Corp. In its statement, the company refers to the user agreement, which states that accounts are an integral part of X Corp services and are provided to users under a usage license. Although the company does not claim rights over the published content, it says that under the platform’s laws and rules, the page cannot be licensed, sold or otherwise subject to change of ownership.

It is worth noting that the transfer of social media accounts to new owners during the sale of companies is a standard practice around the world, but in some cases, for some reason, Elon Musk does not care at all. What’s more, Musk had previously threatened to hand the account over to media company NPR after the media outlet briefly stopped broadcasting on X due to Elon calling the broadcast “state media.” Some believe that since he became the billionaire and chairman of X Corp, social network X itself has become state media. Not only did he finance Donald Trump’s election campaign, he was also part of an unofficial commission called DOGE.

The investigation found that Musk was now helping to amplify far-right voices and suppress democratic voices on the site. Maybe he can influence the election with this and not just help Trump with money. It’s no wonder Elon and his conspiracy theorist friends are trying to help a far-right fake news promoter like Alex Jones.

Interestingly, this behavior of Musk is radically different from the behavior he announced when purchasing Twitter in 2022. He stated at the time that he would not unblock Jones’ page, citing his own experience with the death of a child:

My first child died in my arms. I felt the last heartbeat. I have no mercy for those who use the deaths of children for profit, politics or fame.
– Musk wrote on November 20, 2022, about a month after purchasing the platform.

But in December 2023, Jones was unblocked, Musk declared himself a Republican, increased the degree of his rhetoric and began changing the social network. He now defends InfoWars, a company that denies the brutal murders of twenty children and six teachers at Sandy Hook.
