According to the Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report, Google’s video platform has overtaken the WhatsApp messenger and the Meta Facebook social network. In this way, 43% of respondents said they use YouTube to view journalistic information. Then in second place is WhatsApp, which 41% preferences, followed by Facebook, which comes in third with 40%. It is worth noting that in 2021, Facebook was the main source of information for users.

While the fall of Facebook is noticeable, on the contrary, another social network Meta has risen. Currently Instagram has 35% public preferences, occupying the fourth position. Twitter, on the other hand, ranked fifth with 13%followed by TikTok closing the top 6 with 12%.

The rise of social networks

The study mainly highlights the growth social networks as well as from other digital platforms, which reduces the interest of users to search for information in television newspapers. Thus, a large part of the population is interested in following the events via the Internet.

In the latest report, digital media is the main source of news, with 64% of respondents preferring it. Television, on the other hand, has 55%. Growth was already visible in last year’s report, where social media had 63% versus TV’s 61%.
