Raspberry Pi 500, the power of an SBC in a keyboard

The Raspberry Pi 500 is a new version of the device that combines the popular single-board computer, keyboard and corresponding output ports to make the whole assembly functional and connects it to a display screen and other peripherals such as a mouse. Speaking of peripherals, the British foundation has also announced the launch of its own monitor.

If I had to give someone who is new to this type of solution a version, I would definitely bet on this Raspberry Pi 500. The successor of the Raspberry Pi 400 is as powerful as the current flagship of the foundation (Pi 5), but served va a more familiar and less intimidating format than a simple electronic board.

Raspberry Pi 500, plug and play

The idea behind this type of form factor is inspired by the roots of the Raspberry Pi Foundation. This project started there with the educational segment in mind and although there are many use cases today, the original idea is not forgotten. And even better if it comes in a format where components and cables are removed from the desktop and makes installation, configuration and commissioning much easier for less technical users or those who simply don’t want to bother too much.

Raspberry Pi 500

As for the specs, they are the same as the latest version of the boardwith a quad-core 64-bit ARM processor (the same used by the Raspberry Pi 5); 8 GB of RAM; 2 micro-HDMI ports with support for up to two 4K displays; 3 USB Type A ports; a Gigabit Ethernet port and a 40-pin expansion connector. The only thing we’re really missing is a USB Type-C port in addition to a power port. It includes native support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless standards.

what was said plug and play. The Raspberry Pi 500 comes with a 32GB SD card pre-installed with Raspberry Pi OS, the company’s official Debian-based Linux distribution. It costs $90, which is a slight price increase ($20) over the Raspberry Pi 400. But it’s worth it and makes a great Christmas gift. And if you’re looking for a package that includes everything you need, a desktop kit also sells for $120 with a Raspberry Pi 500, a mouse, a 27W USB-C power supply, and a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable.

Raspberry Pi monitor

Also debuting is a monitor with an IPS panel from 15.6 inchesFull HD resolution and price 100 dollars. It can be powered directly from one of the Raspberry Pi 500’s USB ports and can be used standing with a rear stand or using VESA compatibility.

Since there are quite a few portable 1080p monitors on the market, this release isn’t as notable as the Pi 500. But for die-hard fans of the foundation, there’s now also an option to get a Raspberry Pi-branded monitor.
