It looks like Microsoft is working on new buttons for the tray area in Windows 11. Build 22635.4580, recently released to the beta channel, includes a hidden emoji button that will make it easier for users to find the emoji panel.

Windows 11 has a very powerful panel that provides access to emojis, GIFs, ASCII images, special characters and clipboard history. But not everyone is aware of its existence, and Windows 11 doesn’t provide any useful information about it (press Win + ; to launch the emoji panel). Microsoft wants to change this by offering the ability to display an emoji bar in the tray every time you type.

If you’re using the latest preview build of Windows 11 in the beta channel, you can try the new button for yourself.

Here’s how to do this:

  • SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son shares his vision for AI-powered robots
  • Download ViveTool from GitHub and extract the files into a handy, easy-to-find folder.
  • Run a command prompt as administrator and navigate to the folder containing the ViveTool files with the command CD. For example, if you placed ViveTool in C:\Vive, enter: CD C:\Vive.
  • To enter vivetool /enable /id:48504539 and press To enter.
  • Restart your computer.

After your PC restarts, launch the Settings app (Win + I), go to Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar icons, and select the option you want from the Emoji & More drop-down menu. You can keep the button visible at all times, only when typing, or never.

In case you missed it, Microsoft is also working on more significant changes to the tray area. Recently, users noticed that the company redesigned the battery indicator. The new version is larger and includes better icons, more colors, and other improvements compared to current stable versions of Windows 11.
