The alliance of the French companies Arquus and Thales and the Spanish company NTGS has developed a new Sherpa A2M – an advanced mobile mortar. The Sherpa A2M is the answer to the tactical challenges faced by artillery during high-intensity combat: mobility, defense, direct ground support and mobile counterbattery capabilities.

The Alliance has developed a comprehensive solution that offers unique opportunities for closed-circuit fire support, suitable for supporting infantry, joint forces and special forces, as well as autonomous artillery units that need a high level of mobility and protection.

The Sherpa A2M combines the excellent mobility of the Sherpa Light, the proven deployable mortar system from NTGS and the 120 mm mortar barrel from Thales, in a new fully integrated solution.

Thanks to the capabilities of Thales, the car is equipped with 120-mm rifled ammunition, and in the future – laser-guided mortar ammunition. The barrel of a fluted mortar is three times more sensitive than a smoothbore mortar.

Thanks to this excellent efficiency and accuracy, it can achieve similar operational effects with far fewer shots; shells require about 4 times less than a smooth-hole mortar.

NTGS provides its global systems capabilities with a fire control system located at the rear of the machine. This system transmits information about targets of interest. The A2M Sherpa provides control over all mission operations and has already proven itself in combat. NTGS and Thales mortars and pipes are certified by both NATO and other armies.

The Sherpa Light is a multipurpose armored vehicle with a 4×4 wheel formula, developed by Arquus to provide a wide variety of versions and modifications for every need and mission, built on a proven single foundation to increase versatility and maintainability.

This is a new generation machine created with many years of industrial experience, rapid deployment and maintenance on the battlefield in mind. It is protected against ballistic and mine threats and improvised explosive devices with STANAG 4569 certified protection, which ensures a high level of crew safety inside the machine during operations.

Depending on user requirements, the Sherpa A2M can carry 40 120 mm mortar shells at the rear and additional ammunition in the cockpit. It has a range of up to 8.2 km with standard rifled ammunition and up to 13 km with a missile, which allows you to strengthen the protection of soldiers, hit enemy targets without being hit (hit and run).
